When it comes to curly hair and layers, most stylists tell you to just say no. That's because when it comes to curly hair, a layered cut done incorrectly can lead to frizz and unwanted volume. But when you consult a stylist who specializes in curly hair, certain layered cuts can work with the texture of curly hair to create a flattering look and tame the frizz at the same time.
Long Layers
When it comes to cutting layers for curly hair, long is the key word. Layers create volume in the hair, and curly hair already has lots of volume to spare. Shorter layers in curly hair take on a 'poofy' appearance. Very short layers that are cut too closely together may give the hair an appearance of sticking straight out from the head.
Graduated
A graduated cut is one that has the longest layers cut close to the head with gradually shorter layers toward the crown of the head. Bob

The angle of the cut near the back of the hair may taper as much as 45 degrees. This type of haircut frames the face while creating volume near the crown of the head.
Short Layers
When cutting your hair short, it is important to remember that the shorter the hair, the tighter the curl. If you are going to attempt a short layered hairstyle, you should approach your stylist with the understanding that they will use scissors to maintain the look. Although razored hair is a very trendy way to cut hair, it tends to create frizz in naturally curly hair. A shorter look, when done correctly, creates a halo of hair around the head that can highlight a long neck and delicate features.
