How to Style Super Short Black Hair ~ Hair Styling Tips

If the length of your hair is shorter than two inches, you may inevitably come to the point of wanting to add extensions or wear wigs in order to change your look. However, there are many different ways to achieve a variety of styles with your short hair. Achieving versatility in styles with super short black hair involves texture and accessorizing. Investing in heat-styling tools and rollers specifically designed to style your length of hair will help you achieve different short hair styles.

Instructions

Apply a hair texturizer kit to your natural hair to help it go from kinky to curly. A hair texturizer--as opposed to a relaxer--will loosen your curl pattern to create larger coils of curls all over your head. With a texturizer you can simply add a moisturizer or curl activator spray to activate your curls. Wear the curls alone or add clips or headbands to style.

Wash your hair and allow it to air dry. Begin parting a small section. Apply setting lotion to that section and roll the section in your 1/2 inch rollers. You will need at least 1 inch of hair for the roller to wrap around twice to create a curl. Repeat the process throughout the entire head until it is all rolled. Sit under a hooded dryer on high heat for 30 minutes or until the hair has dried. Unravel the rollers to reveal a curly head of hair. This is an alternative to applying a hair texturizer to your natural hair or if you have relaxed hair that no longer curls when wet. Wear alone or accessorize with clips or headbands.

Wash and blow dry your hair with a hand-held blow dryer. Plug in your 1/2 inch curling iron to heat. Lightly spray your hair with heat protectant. Begin parting your hair in small sections and curling the sections with the curling iron. Hold the hair onto the curling iron for about 10 seconds for each section. Allow the curl to cool as you move onto another section. After completing the entire head of hair, use a comb to fluff out the curls and style as you like. This will create a softer curled look to your hair. Wear alone or accessorize with clips or head bands.

Apply a relaxer kit to your natural hair to achieve a permanent straight texture to your hair. Relaxing your hair will allow you to create straight styles with ease, if they tend to be your preference over curly or natural hair styles.

Spike your hair using holding gel and hair spray for an edgy-youthful look. Use a comb to part your hair into sections--size depending on how big or small you prefer your spikes to be. Apply a dime size amount of holding gel to the section and mold it into a spike. When you finish spiking your entire head, spray your spikes with holding spray. You can also sit under your hooded hair dryer under cool air for 20 minutes to harden the gel and hair spray on your spikes. The cool air is important so you do not sweat and re-moisturize your hair.

Part a side part into your hair with a comb and slick down your hair to your head with gel for a sleek no-fuss hair style. You can also part down the middle or comb your hair straight back to achieve this look. After applying the gel to your hair you can sit under the hooded dryer with cool air for 20 minutes to harden the gel. Should you not want to add gel, you may also use a hair moisturizer or setting lotions to slick the hair back. Apply a headband if you desire to accessorize.
