Plastic hair rollers can be used to style hair with soft waves and curls. Plastic hair rollers are cylinder-shaped tubes with holes to allow ventilation through the curler. Plastic hair curlers come in many varieties, but those that have slight texturing hold hair better. These types of rollers are great for use on children's hair since no heat is used that can harm a tender scalp. In addition, plastic rollers work well on overly processed or damaged hair since no heat is used when curling.

Instructions

    1

Wash your hair and towel it dry. Plastic rollers work best on wet hair, although you can set your hair when it's slightly damp. Completely dry hair doesn't set well in plastic rollers since the curlers tend to slip out of dry hair. Work hair gel or mousse through your hair to help keep your curls in place. This will help keep your style but will also aid in keeping your hair wound in the rollers.

    2

Section damp hair into 1 to 2-inch sections using the comb. If you choose to use larger sections of hair, your style will be looser waves instead of curls. Rolling smaller sections of hair creates many curls.

    3

Begin by rolling your hair onto your preferred size plastic curler. Begin with the top layer of hair. Start at the end of the hair section and roll your hair evenly onto the curler until you reach your scalp. Clip the curler into place with a bobby pin or clip.

    4

Work your way around your head using your choice of curler size. Make sure you roll each section of hair close to your head, clipping securely to prevent the curler from falling out.

    5

Set your curls with a two-minute pass with the hair dryer. Don't put the air too close to your head, but instead allow the air to blow lightly over each curler. This step will help dry your hair faster and activate the hair gel or mousse to hold the curl.

    6

Cover your hair with a hair net if you plan to sleep in the curlers. This type of curler requires time to set as your hair dries, so plastic curlers aren't a great choice for a quick hairstyle. If you choose to curl your hair with plastic rollers during the day, allow plenty of time for the hair to dry before removing the rollers.

    7

Remove all the pins and rollers gently. The correct way to preserve your curls involves unrolling every plastic roller carefully.

    8

Finger comb your hair to loosen the curls. Spray a light mist of hairspray over your head and let the hairspray dry thoroughly. Brush your hair lightly with a wide bristle brush or comb to prevent removing or loosening the curls.
