Get a flattering hair cut, preferably from an actual beautician. A barber may be adequate if you want a very short buzz cut, but a trained pair of scissors will give you a better result.
2Ask your stylist about the types of products they use. This should give you a good idea of products that are suitable for your hair type. Gel may do the trick, but pomade could be a better choice.
3Bring pictures of short, curly styles that you like to your next appointment. Your stylist can show you how to recreate these looks.

Shampoo and condition you hair according to the instructions on the bottle. It's easier to style clean hair.
5Blot your hair with a bath towel. Your hair should be damp to moderately wet, but not dripping.
6Comb your hair with a wide-toothed comb or brush to remove any tangles.
7Apply hair product to your hair. The technique will depend upon the finished look you are going for. For example, gel applied to wet hair will dry to a smooth but stiff finish. Mousse will have a bit more movement.
8Use product sparingly to avoid looking overdone. For example, pomade is only applied to the root of your hair to create lift and separation. If distributed evenly throughout your short, curly hair, you risk a greasy look.
9Finger comb your hair if a natural look is desired. For a slick finish, run the wide-toothed comb or brush through your hair after the hair styling aid is applied.
10Allow your hair to air dry. Using a blow dryer can cause your hair to frizz.
