How to Roll Hair with Spiral Rods ~ Hair Styling Tips

Rolling hair with a spiral rod is different than using a regular barrel roller. Spiral rods are long and cylindrical. The bendable rods are designed to create a long, flowing spiral curl. Learn the technique to create beautiful curls with your spiral rods every time.

Instructions

Apply a light styling gel to wet or dry hair. Distribute the gel evenly. If you have fine hair and want a tight curl, start with wet hair. If you want a soft curl, start with dry hair.

Section your hair. Clip one side of your hair out of the way with a butterfly clip. Use a rat-tail comb to section off a 1-inch section of hair.

Wrap the 1-inch section around the rod twice. Take both ends of the spiral rod and slowly spin it at a vertical angle, evenly spacing your hair along the length of the rod.

Wrap the hair to your scalp, clip the ends together and release the rod. Repeat the process with the next section of hair.

Let your hair air dry or use a blow dryer, or diffuser. Test a curl by unrolling a spiral rod. Once your hair is dry, remove the spiral curlers and style. Run your fingers through your hair to separate the curls for a natural effect. Brush your curls for a looser wave.
