A shampoo bowl, found in salons, is where a person's head will rest while getting his or her hair washed at the salon. You may need to wash a client's or friend's hair in a home that does not contain one of these shampoo bowls. Fortunately, the right type of sink can be substituted for a shampoo bowl. Positioning the person properly around the sink will allow you to wash his or her hair without using a shampoo bowl.
Instructions
- 1
Find a kitchen or bathroom sink that has a spraying nozzle.
2Place a chair or stool in front of the sink.
3Sit the person in front of the sink. Depending on the person's hair, you may need to have him start facing one way and re-position himself once or twice during the washing process.
4Place a towel around the person's neck. This will make it more comfortable when the person rests her head back into the sink.
5Have the person tilt his or her head into the sink.
6Stand at the side of the sink and begin to spray the hair with lukewarm water. You may need to keep the water at a lower pressure so that you do not soak the person.
7Squirt a quarter-sized amount of shampoo into your hands.
8Rub your hands together and then run your hands through the person's hair in order to add the shampoo to the hair. You may want to have the person sit up straight while doing this so that he is comfortable as you add the shampoo to the hair.
9Rinse the person's hair as you did in step 6.
10Repeat the two previous steps using conditioner.
11Towel or blow dry the hair. Which one you select will vary based upon how you are styling the hair.

Great tips! I've never had a shampoo bowl in my home, but I've always just used my regular sink. I never really thought about how to position the person properly, but this makes sense. Thanks for the advice! Also you can go my blog for more shampoo bowl idea portable shampoo
ReplyDeleteI don't have a shampoo bowl, but I have found that a kitchen or bathroom sink with a spraying nozzle works just as well! You just have to position the person properly around the sink and have them tilt their head back into the sink. I stand at the side of the sink and spray the hair with lukewarm water, then squirt a quarter-sized amount of shampoo into my hands and rub them together before running my hands through the person's hair. Once the shampoo is in, I rinse the person's hair and then repeat the process with conditioner. Towel or blow drying the hair is the last step, depending on how you are styling the hair.
