The ponytail is a functional and attractive hairstyle option. It can be particularly useful for hair that is curled, either naturally or due to styling. You can put curled hair into a ponytail just using your own hair and bobby pins. Follow the directions below to try this hairstyle. If your hair is too thick or just will not stay using this method, consider using an elastic hair tie to help hold your hair in place.

Instructions

    Gather your hair at the nape of your neck. For a low ponytail, proceed to step two. For a higher ponytail, move your hand with the hair in it to the position on your head where you want the ponytail.

    Smooth your hair along your head by running your free hand over your head, from the front of the top of your head back toward the position for your ponytail. Grab all of your gathered hair with this hand and use the now free hand to repeat this step until all your hair is as smooth as you want. Also, run your hand along the hair under the ponytail, from the nape of your neck up to the position of your gathered hair.

    Use a brush to smooth any uneven or bumpy portions along your head. Only brush the hair from the roots to the position of the ponytail in order to retain your curls.

    Wrap a small portion of the gathered hair that is longest, normally from the underneath section of your hair around all of your gathered hair.

    Wrap the end of this portion of your hair around itself, underneath the ponytail.

    Secure the ponytail by pushing a bobby pin through the hair wrapped around your ponytail. Push it in toward the ponytail.

    Add more bobby pins to the wrapped hair until the ponytail feels secure.

    Wrap more hair around the ponytail to hide any bobby pins. Secure this hair with bobby pins, only placing them underneath the ponytail so they are hidden.
