How to Make a Turban Headband

Turban-inspired headbands, which create the illusion of fabric tied around the head in a knot, have become a must-have hair accessory. First introduced by the fashion-forward house of Prada, turban headbands are now flooding stores. However, if you don't want to be limited by color and pattern choices, consider making your own turban headband. Knowing the headband is the product of your own work will make wearing it more enjoyable.

Instructions

    1

Measure the width of the headband with a ruler.

    2

Cut three strips of fabric. Each should be three times as wide as the headband. One of the strips must be long enough to cover the entire headband, while the second strip should be half as long.

    3

Use scissors to cut a slit, measuring approximately 1 inch, in the shorter strip of fabric. The slit should be positioned about 11/2 inches from one of the ends of the fabric strip.

    4

Use a paint brush to coat one side of the strip with glue. The slit and the edge next to it should not have glue on it.

    5

Gently press the portion of the fabric coated in glue against half of the headband. The slit should be positioned in the middle of the headband. Do not flatten the fabric completely. It should have many grooves and wrinkles that protrude upward.

    6

Use scissors to trim any large amounts of fabric that hang over the edges, reducing them to approximately 3/4 of an inch. Coat the underside of the overhanging fabric in glue and fold it under, pressing it against the underside of the headband.

    7

Coat half of the remaining fabric strip in glue and press it against the half of the headband opposite to the one you worked with in Steps 5 and 6. The fabric should become loose once it runs into the other strip.

    8

Twist the loose portion of fabric to create a coil. Insert the coil under and through the slit. Unwind the coil and coat one side of the fabric in glue. Press it lightly against the half of the headband opposite the slit. Trim any overhang and glue it under the headband as you did with the previous strip.

    9

Allow the turban headband to dry before wearing it.
