Long Hair Cut Styles ~ Hair Styling Tips

Many women prefer long hair cut styles to short or medium styles. Long hair is feminine and romantic. It is also very versatile. Long hair can easily be put up, half up and half down or completely down. This versatility is one of the reasons why long hair is popular. However, long hair also requires plenty of maintenance including regular trims to keep the hair healthy-looking.

Long layers is a great cut for long hair of any type. The layered cut is extremely popular because it adds volume and body to fine or limp hair. Long hair can sometimes get weighed down and look flat, but long layers alleviate this problem by adding texture and personality to hair. For this long hair cut style, ask your hairdresser to give you layers throughout your hair then add a few extra face-framing layers in the front. In order to keep the layers fresh, you may have to get a trim every six to eight weeks. To separate the layers when styling, rub mousse or gel between your palms and run through your hair for extra definition.

This cut is perfect for naturally straight hair. It is characterized by blunt edges and is the same length throughout with no inner layers. Blunt bangs that skim the eyebrows can also be added, especially if you have a long shaped face. The blunt cut style was especially popular in the 1960s. This cut may not work for curly hair because the tendency of the strands to curl prevents the blunt edges from being seen. Because the blunt cut is so severe, it is best for people with round and oval face shapes. To maintain the bluntness of the cut, get a trim every four to six weeks. If your hair is wavy or curly and you still want to get this cut, you can blow dry or flat iron your hair straight.

A long shag is similar to a long layers cut in that the hair is cut into alternating lengths. However, a shag is more texturized than a layered cut and the strands more piecey and choppy. A shag cut looks great on people with round, oval and long faces. It's also ideal for people who want a very youthful and trendy look. This style is relatively easy to manage, only requiring a trim every four to six weeks or so. Use pomade or mousse to accentuate the choppy strands. For a softer look, blow dry the ends with a rounded brush. Spritz with hairspray to hold the look.
