Medium Exotic Hairstyles ~ Hair Styling Tips

Exotic hairstyles are those that stray somewhat from the norm and medium-length hair is ideal for creating interesting and unusual hair designs. With today's radical fashion trends, women of all tastes, styles and ages can enjoy setting themselves apart from the crowd by expressing themselves with custom hair designs. You don't have to be a professional stylist to achieve many of these looks. If your hair length is medium, exotic hairstyles can be done at home on straight or curly hair.

Messy tousled curls create an exotic hairstyle.

A simple way to style nearly any medium-length haircut into a more exotic design is to muss it up a bit. Use your favorite styling mousse, gel or hairstyling product after washing and blow dry your hair while bending from the waist to create added volume. To create soft waves, curl your hair in small sections with electric rollers or a curling iron leaving only a few thinner strands straight throughout the bulk of your hair. Let the hair cool and spray lightly with hairspray before finger styling to create a wavy, tousled look.

Add chopsticks to a bun style for an exotic look.

Up-dos have long been traditional styling for exotic looks in hair design. Pull all of your hair back and away from the forehead and fasten it in a ponytail. Take the length of the ponytail and wrap it around the hairband to create a bun. Insert chopsticks through the bun--pointed side inward--to complete the look.

A radical hairstyle for women with medium-length hair is a French-braided Mohawk. This works best for gals with curly hair but can be achieved in straight hair with a good amount of styling gel and hairspray. Create rows of French braids only on the sides of the head that start at the face and end at the nape of your neck leaving the remaining length loose. If your hair is curly, slightly tease or finger style the top hair that is left loose too create height. For straight hair extensive teasing and hair products may be required.
