An Amika hair straightener can be used to flatten, or straighten, your hair. Using any hair straightener or flat iron to curl your hair will give your hairstyle move waves than if you were to curl your hair with a standard curling iron.

Instructions

    Blow-dry your hair with a paddle brush in order to straighten and smooth it. It is always best to begin with smooth, straightened (but not flat-ironed) hair.

    Turn your hair straightener on to medium-to-high heat. The heat will be determined by the texture of your hair. If you hair is fine, keep the heat closer to medium. If it is thick, heat the straightener closer to high.

    Mist light-hold, hair-styling spray throughout your hair. Flip your head upside down, if necessary, to get to the underneath sections near the nape of your neck.

    Allow your hair to naturally part on top. If you generally wear a side part, leave it as so.

    Separate your hair into two sections--the left and right sides. Clip away one of the two sections so that you can focus on one side at a time.

    Use the tip of a hair clip to separate a section from the temple of your head to the tip of your ear on one side.

    Clip away all other hair on that side so that you are only working with the separated section.

    Place the hair straightener around the roots of your hair. Pull the straightener down roughly 1/2 inch and curl it up. Continue doing this, moving down the section of hair and curling the straightener every 1/2 inch. When you finish, the section of hair should be both around and inside the hair straightener. Release your hair from the straightener.

    Use the tip of a hair clip to separate another diagonal section about 1 inch above the previous section.

    Create two 2-inch sections from the separated diagonal section of hair referenced in the previous step. Separating your hair will help you curl it evenly. Curl both portions of hair individually.

    Continue to work your way around your head, using this technique until you have achieved your desired look.
