Hair extensions are common hair accessories for women. Nowadays, hair extensions are more commonly known as weaves. In the 1980s, weaves started to become popular among African American women. The trend spread and weaves of all types, colors and textures are sold today. Once you decide the type, length and color you want for your weave, it is easy to braid the weave into your own hair and save yourself the considerable fee charged by beauty salons.

Instructions

    1

Soak your weave into a mixture of 1 cup of vinegar and a gallon of hot water. Allow the weave to soak for 15 to 20 minutes. This removes the chemicals from the extensions. Allow the extensions to dry.

    2

Take a 1-inch section of your hair, around the front, and hold it away from the scalp. Apply gel to the hair.

    3

Flatten the section of hair that you applied gel to. Apply more gel if necessary but do not flat iron your hair because it will damage the hair.

    4

Apply a little gel onto one section of the weave. Drape the weave over the section of your hair that has gel.

    5

Adjust the weave so the real hair is in the middle. Take the piece of extension nearest your left side and bring that piece to the middle. Bring your hair over the extension so that it is in the middle.

    6

Bring the hair from the left again and bring it over to the middle. Take the right piece of the extension and bring that over the rest of the hair to the middle. Continue alternating lefts strand of extension over to the middle, your hair over extensions and right hair from the extensions over to the middle until your hair is completely covered by the two strands of the extension.

    7

Take half of the remaining right extension and half of the remaining left extension so that you have 3 strands again even though none of the strands is your own hair because the extension is longer than your own hair that is completely woven into the braid.

    8

Continue to braid for as long as you want the braid to be. Take a strand from the left side and bring it in to the middle. Bring the right strand over to the middle. Each time you do that the middle strand becomes the end strand. Just keep alternating until the braid is the length you want.

    9

Use a hot roller for the end of the braid to seal it or for the best look and least damage, put a thin roller on the very end and dip the end into boiling water for 3 minutes. Do this carefully and do not get too close to the water. Allow the weave to dry before removing the roller. You can speed the process by using a hair dryer.
