Whatever type of hair rollers you choose, whether they are hot curlers, foam rollers or the old-fashioned brush rollers, the way they are placed on the head is basically the same if what you want to do is add body to your hairstyle. The only variations to this pattern is if you want to curl bangs, create banana curls, or create other special effects.

Roll up the "mohawk" row first. Start in the center of your forehead. Take a strand of hair the size of the roller and about 1/4-inch thick, and roll up on the curler front to back. Place another curler directly behind the first one, again rolling front to back. Continue rolling the hair on curlers, placing one directly behind the other until the center "mohawk" row is finished and ends with the last curler at the nape of your neck.
2Roll the two side rows next, starting at the top, adjacent to the "mohawk" row, as in the photo at the top of this article. It typically takes about three to four rollers for each side row. Roll the top roller of the side row first, rolling the hair on the curler in a downward direction toward your ear. Place the next curler directly under the previous one until the bottom one is rolled right above your ear. Do the other side exactly the same way.
3Roll up the two rows that are in the back in between the mohawk row and the side rows. Roll up the top curler first, curling the hair downward toward the neck. Place the next roller directly under it and the third roller directly under the second one. The last roller should be at your neck. Roll up the other back side row the same way.
4Leave rollers in until the hair is completely dry, or until the rollers are cool, based on the type of rollers you are using.
