Instead of using a traditional curling iron, curlers or hair waver, you can use a flatiron to create loose waves in the hair. By using a twisting motion of the wrist while straightening the hair, you can create effortless-looking waves. For women craving just-back-from-the-beach, natural-looking waves, a Chi flatiron may be the answer.
Instructions

Wash and condition the hair. Let the hair air-dry to prevent heat damage or, if time does not allow, dry it with a hair dryer.
2Apply a heat-protecting serum to the hair. This type of styling product, which can be found over-the-counter, is ideal for protecting the hair from the damaging and drying effects of a Chi straightening iron.
3Section the hair. Clip the top half of the hair up and section the remaining hair into three individual sections--one on each side and one in the back of the head.
4Remove the clip or rubber band from one of the side sections. Begin as close to the roots as possible and place a section of the hair in the iron. Apply gentle, even pressure while slowly moving the iron down the hair and turning the wrist to make a spiral movement. The spiral movement should mirror that of the letter "S". Repeat the process with the next two bottom sections of hair, always working on one section at a time.
5Remove the clip from the top half of the hair and pull out one third of the hair to work on, clipping the remaining hair up again. Use the Chi to wave the first section of hair, followed by the remaining top sections.
6Finger-comb the hair to loosen the waves and spritz a finishing spray on the hair to set the waves and add shine.
