Ribbons add flair to any hairstyle and help decorate normal, bland hair. The size of ribbon used, along with the material and color used, can help coordinate a hairstyle to an outfit. Ribbons can take the place of a tiara or head garland for a wedding hairstyle, or make an impromptu headband.

    Decorate an ordinary ponytail with a bright ribbon by creating a low side ponytail, tying it with a thin elastic and covering the elastic with a ribbon bow. Coordinate the bow with your outfit or handbag, or wear it as your only accessory.

    Keep long hair tied back by creating a low ponytail and holding it with a thin elastic. Take a long piece of medium sized ribbon and wrap it around the elastic, starting from underneath the ponytail. Continue wrapping the ponytail with the ribbon and tying a bow at the ends.

    Create three braids in the back of your head and tie each with a thin elastic. Starting with one of the side braids, wrap it into a tight bun. Wrap the other side braid around the first and finish off with the middle braid. Secure the bun with an elastic and then wrap a large ribbon around the bun and tie it underneath the bun in a large bow.

    Weave ribbon into a braid by creating a ponytail and tying a long ribbon at the base of the ponytail. Separate the ponytail into two sections and use the ribbon as the third section. Braid as usual and tie together with extra ribbon.

    Create a medieval princess look by brushing your hair straight and separating the back and sides into one inch sections. Use small gold or silver wired ribbons and secure the sections, making sure to interweave the different sections so your hair resembles waves in the back.

    Brush your bangs back, or to the side, and secure with an elastic. Using a small width ribbon, create a bow over the elastic, or just tie a knot over the elastic and cut off the excess ribbon.ri
