Whether you want a low-maintenance style or you're just trying to keep your weave in a little longer, the roller-set is the perfect way to hide hair faults. Wear the bouncy curls tight like Shirley Temple or have flowing locks like the Hollywood starlets. Ditch the hot rollers in favor of setting lotion and rods by following these tips for the perfect roller set.
Instructions
- 1
Brush through the hair with a dab of hair mousse. Wait about 30 minutes for hair to fully dry.
2Begin by styling the front of the hair how you like, whether as a part on the side, straight back or another styling idea.
3Taking about an inch of hair or less, put a finger tip of setting lotion or spray down the length of the hair. Be sure to keep the hair slightly damp, but not wet.
4To create spiral or Shirley Temple-style curls, start with the ends of the hair at the base of the roller, gradually moving up. The closure of the rod should always face upward. Also put the roller very close to where you'd like for the curl to fall, meaning close to the scalp or down the length of the hair. Rod size depends on the size of the curls desired.
5Repeat the steps throughout the head of the hair, remembering to keep the clasp of the roller facing upward for easy removal and styling. Make the rollers mimic the desired style.
6Using flexible holding spray, create a light mist around the head of the hair. A few squirts should do it. Be sure that the hair is only damp and not wet, as wet hair will take longer to dry.
7For first-time setters, sitting under a dryer for about an hour to lock the curls in place and dry the products should do the trick. If you've done this quite often, feel free to sleep with the rods in place as long as your nightcap is tight, you know you'll have at least 8 hours before they will be taken out and you have a cover on your pillow to keep products from seeping through.
8Once dry, it will be time to remove the rollers. While removing the rods, pull downward after you've released the top clasp. Pull curls into place using your finger first and a curling iron to loosen if you find they're too tight.
9Continue to style the hair as desired. Leave plenty of time before leaving home to make sure the style is manageable and to your liking.
