Braiding hair is an art that creates beautiful hair styles. There are several ways to braid hair. Each one lets your hair lie differently. Braiding is done with your hands, moving slowly to control three constant pieces of hair from the beginning to the end of one braid. Another name for one style of braid is scalp plaiting, also called French braiding. You work close to the scalp with this braid. You can create scalp plaiting with any long hair type.
Instructions

Brush your hair so that it is free from tangles. You need long hair to do the scalp plait or French braid.
2Start at the top of your head and divide three strips of hair, the top middle, a strand left of the top and a third strand to the right of the top of your head. First do a regular plait, which is right strand over center strand, and then left strand over center.
3Add extra hair from the right side, taken from just below the previous right side piece. Bring it over the center piece. Then grab hair from the left just below the previous left strand and bring it over the center strand. Hold the plait snugly as you go. Keep grabbing strands from the right and crossing over the center strand, then getting another strand from the left and crossing over the center.
4Braid until you work your way to the bottom of your hair. The scalp plait will be snug-fitting down the contour of the center of your head. Secure with a small rubber band at the bottom.
