Hot rollers are a quick way to get bouncy curls that can be worn at the office and at nightclubs. A head full of curls from hot rollers is definitely a stylish way to go. But many people do not know the right technique for rolling their hair.
Preparing the Hair
Hot rollers work best on clean, dry hair, so shampoo your hair before using the rollers. Do a quick moisturizing conditioner after the shampoo to give your hair some shine and softness. Towel dry the hair and begin to set up the area where you will be doing the rolling.
It is best to find a spot in front of the mirror that is well ventilated. Being in a humid area will cause your head to sweat, and the rollers won't be able to curl the hair.
Gather all your tools into one area, close to the mirror. You will need a comb, blow dryer, mousse, the curlers and curler clips. Plug in the curlers to let them start heating up. Rub a quarter-sized amount of mousse through your hair and comb it through. Then completely dry the hair with the blow dryer. If you have curly or kinky hair, you can use a round brush to straighten out the hair some while running the blow dryer over it.
Rolling the Hair
Brush the hair to maintain its shape. Starting at the crown of your head, roll a 2-inch section of hair. Hold the hair with one hand and use the other to wrap the roller around the hair, starting at the end of the hair. Roll all the way to your scalp and secure it with a roller clip. Continue to roll until all of your hair is in rollers.
Styling
After about 15 minutes, the rollers will start to cool. This is your cue to take the rollers out of the hair. Start along the bottom layer of rollers first. Remove the clip and unroll the hair; be careful not to pull too hard on the roller. For a more spiral curl look, twist your wrist in a counter-clockwise motion while unrolling the hair.
Use a large-tooth comb to style the curls. If you want a more polished look, use a rat-tail comb and brush to smooth the curls. Use a little hairspray to hold the look and oil sheen to give it shine.
