How to Style Heat Damaged Hair

Hair can be damaged by straightening irons, hot rollers, curling irons, crimpers, blow dryers and other hot styling tools. Hair can also be damaged from being out in the sun. Heat damaged hair can break off when styled, brushed or dyed. Limit further damage to the hair by using heat-free styling methods. You can tell if your hair has been damaged by hot tools if the ends of your hair split easily and often, and if your hair feels dry and brittle to the touch.

Instructions

Heat-Free Curls

    1

Rake a dime-sized dollop of conditioning shine serum into damp hair using fingers. Concentrate on the bottom half of hair and keep serum away from the roots. This can make hair look greasy.

    2

Wait for hair to air dry.

    3

Comb out any tangles in the hair using a wide-toothed comb.

    4

Place each of your index fingers a few inches above your ears and trace them back until they meet to separate the top half of your hair from the bottom half.

    5

Pull the top half of hair up and secure with a clip

    6

Roll 2-inch sections of hair into foam rollers until the bottom half of the hair is in rollers.

    7

    Release clip.

    8

Roll 2-inch sections of hair into rollers until the top half is in rollers.

    9

    Sleep on rollers.

    10

Release rollers starting at the bottom part of hair and work your way up.

    11

Mist hair with flexible hold hairspray.

    12

Tousle and separate curls with fingers.
