How to Style Long Hair for a Party ~ Hair Styling Tips

If you have long hair, when you're heading out to a party, you want to show off your luscious locks.

Whether a loose hairstyle or a tight up-do best reflects your personality, you'll find your long hair provides many options for creating a party hairstyle. Test out different styles to find the one which best suits your mood and the occasion, then add accessories to polish off your look.

Decide on whether you prefer to curl or straighten your hair and if you want your hair down, half-up or all up. Consider your face shape when choosing a hairstyle. Updoprincess.com suggests pulled-back styles for round faces, a side-swept look with curls or bangs for heart-shaped faces, and curled looks for square faces. Oval faces can wear any style they want, though a longer oval shape may add curls or bangs to keep the style from making the face appear longer.

Practice your hairstyle several days before the party so you have time to see what problems you run into and change your mind, if necessary. If you plan on having a hairdresser style your hair, arrange a practice session to try the style out.

If you choose to do your own hair at home, apply mousse or hairspray meant for either curly or straight hair, depending on the results you want. Section your hair off into a top layer, middle layer, and bottom layer. Start with the bottom layer and divide it into two-inch sections of hair. Work from bottom to top and spray a strong-hold hairspray on afterward.

Pull your hair back into a tight ponytail if you want to create a bun hairstyle. Twist the hair around in a tight circle and secure with a hairband, clips or other accessories. Consider adding small jeweled clips to the side of your hair, and leave a long, curled piece of hair on one or both sides of your face to add more elegance to the style.

Divide the hair into a top and bottom section to create a half-up hairstyle. Pull the top section up and clip it in place. Divide this top section into two parts and twist or braid each section before pinning it in the back with decorative hair clips. Alternatively, create a bun using only the top section of the hair for a softer look.
