How to Make a Messy Bun With Straight Hair ~ Hair Styling Tips

From the sidewalks to the red carpet, the messy bun is one of the hottest hairstyles around. Although this hairstyle looks like you just threw it together, it actually takes some effort. But straight hair makes it easy to achieve this hairstyle and pull off that bohemian chic look. The messy bun with straight hair works well for a casual outing with friends, or you can dress it up for a special date by adding glitzy earrings and stiletto heels.

Instructions

Start with messy hair. This hairstyle works best the day after hair has been washed. This allows hair to have natural oils that will help the messy bun fall properly. Do not be too concerned with hair's texture; the more rumpled, the better.

Apply hair serum to reduce flyaways that straight hair often has. You don't want to weigh hair down with serum, so use just a few drops and distribute throughout the hair all the way to the ends. This also adds shine to your hair.

Gather hair at the round of the head and twist, as if creating a classic ponytail. Coil hair around to create the messy bun, and secure with a hair elastic or a few bobby pins. Don't worry if a few hairs escape from the bun. You are going for an undone look, so there's no need to be perfect.

Clean up any random stray hairs. You don't want too many pieces sticking out. Spray hair lightly with hairspray, and use your fingers to comb hairs back. Secure them with a bobby pin under the base of the bun.
