How to Make Crossgrain Ribbon Headbands

Headbands are a quick and easy way to get your hair off of your face and out of your eyes. They will also give your hair some color. If you go to a boutique, beauty supply store or drug store, chances are that you'll be over paying for the headbands that you see. However, making your own headband can be both fun and easy. With some grossgrain ribbon and few extra items, you'll a brand new headband for half the price.

Instructions

Place the center of the ribbon on top of your head. You will want the ribbon to fall about two inches behind each ear.

Make two 1/2-inch folds on either end of the ribbon. Insert several straight pins to keep the folds in place.

Thread your needle. Tack a simple stitch into each fold to create a small hem.

Slide the elastic cord through each hem and tie it into a loose knot.

Place the headband onto your head and adjust it so it lays correctly. Gently tighten or loosen the elastic cord as necessary to fit your head. When you've found your perfect fit, tie the cord into a tight knot and trim off the ends.

Run a thin strip of hot glue along the entire outside of the plastic headband.

Glue the ribbon directly to the headband, allowing 1 inch of ribbon to hang over each end of the headband.

Apply a dot of glue to the inside of the ends of the headband.

Fold the bottom 1-inch of extra ribbon---hanging from the bottom of the headband---under and on top of the glue. Press to adhere.

Allow three hours for the glue to completely dry.
